The Presidential Flamingo Fishing Rodeo is back for its 7th annual edition from July 28-30th and we couldn’t be more excited. Flamingo, is one of sportfishing’s most legendary destinations, Jerry and Deborah Dunaway were among the first to put the waters off Flamingo on the world sportfishing map with their, still standing, IGFA records. When the conditions are good you can expect the bite for billfish and pelagics to be only 16-18 miles out.
Tournament organizer Joan Vernon first fished off Flamingo in the 1980s and started her Presidential Challenge Series in 1997. The tournament’s mission statement is to publicize Flamingo as the fishing destination that it used to be by helping charter captains book clients to fish this event. The tournament will also benefit not only marine conservation in Costa Rica but also a local charity called Abriendo Mentes, which is a nonprofit organization to help provide assistance to people in this part of Costa Rica to have access to enhanced education and employment opportunities.
Charter Boats are Encouraged! Private Boats are also Welcome to Participate.
